St Albert Soap Box Derby start ramp
First reference to Soapbox Derby is in 1960 as part of a St Albert and Edmonton Lions Soapbox Derby.

In 1961, St Albert celebrated 100 years as a community and Soapbox Derby on St Vital Avenue was the first event on the program.

2011, in conjunction with the City of St Albert's 150th anniversary celebration, the Spirt of St Albert committee restarted Soapbox Derby on St Vital Avenue.

Spirit of St Albert/Rock’n August continued to operate the Derby until 2019. Soapbox did not run in 2020 and 2021.

In 2022, St Albert Fountain Tire, a long-time sponsor, was approached and took over organizing Soapbox Derby with support from St Albert Cruisers Car Club.

To encourage diversity and increase involvement, Community Racers were added and “Build Kits” were created.

St Albert Soap Box Derby is organized and run by a group of community volunteers from St Albert and area with strong support of the St Albert business community.
